Introduction of scalp acupuncture

Scalp acupuncture, also known as head acupuncture, has been established on the traditional Chinese acupuncture, modern anatomy, neurophysiology and bioholography. Scalp acupuncture is a type of treatment method utilizing needles to insert into identified point, line and zones along meridians on the scalp. Clinically, scalp acupuncture is often used to treat brain diseases.

Practice of Head Acupuncture in China dated back thousands of years, ancient physicians had documented various locations of the acupuncture points, their quantities, functions and major applications in treating diseases. "Head is the dwelling places of energy and brightness", "The essences of the internal organs enter into the eyes, and go up to the head". The Twelve Meridians, the 365 Luo (Vessels) as well as the "Qi" ("energy") and blood that flow along the Meridians and Vessels, travel up to the face, gather at the head, The head with a dense distribution of the "Shu Points" (acupuncture points) is closely linked to the brain marrow, the internal organs and "Qi Xue" (energy and blood), all of these essential elements of human body are interrelated and effecting each other pathologically.

Scalp acupuncture as a specialized therapy was first appeared in the 1950s to 1970s, when a large number of Chinese acupuncturists from different places began to explore acupuncture points and locations on the scalp, they discovered that scalp acupuncture was effective in treating brain disorders and problems from other parts of the body. Some acupuncturist came up with the "Theory of Fu Xiang' and 'Fu Zang '", others acupuncturists based on theories of scalp zones, their functions and locations according to the Western Medicine, identified 16 stimulation areas, namely motor, sensory, chorea-tremor, vasomotor, vertigo-auditory, speech (zone third), speech (zone fourth), operation, foot motor-sensory, optic, balance, gastric, liver and gallbladder, thoracic, reproduction areas. The developmental of scalp acupuncture was quickly spread home and aboard, it is often used for clinical treatment.

The use of scalp acupuncture was originated from Chinese Acupuncture and Scalp Functions and Locations in Modern Medicine. To facilitate world wide academic exchanges of scalp acupuncture and further promote its clinical applications, "Standardization of Naming Scalp Acupuncture Points" was enacted in May 1984 by World Health Organization and passed by the Western Pacific Scalp Acupuncture Standardization Naming Conference. It was set up accordingly to the theories of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture with reference to the principles of identifying and locating acupuncture points, zones and meridians.

A large number of clinical and scientific reports have demonstrated that head acupuncture can improve oxygen supply among brain vessels and coordinate functions of the cerebral cortex; while stimulating acupuncture points with the needles in the corresponding areas can help control further development of diseases, as a result of the therapy, brain cells that are damaged, dormant and old can be repaired, reactivated and revitalized.

Clinical evidences also prove that scalp acupuncture is simple, safe and uniquely effective in treating various diseases caused by damages to the brain.

Introduction of scalp acupuncture

Q: Why scalp acupuncture has unique effectiveness in treating brain diseases?
A: During the treatment, the needles are directly inserted to the scalp treating point, line and area along the meridian, causing rapid changes in the circulation of Qi and blood in the brain, and thus achieving its unique efficiency.

Q: How long does it take to treat my child or family member's brain diseases?
A: There are a few aspects that can affect the treatment: the passion, skills and experience of the acupuncture doctor, the severity and the duration of disease, patient's physical strength and ability to recovery, as well as family education and care.
